Accepted into the ARx4 Program
I recently applied to be part of the Artist + Researcher Exhibition (ARx4) program and was accepted. I’m so excited about the idea of collaborating with a scientist/researcher to create a piece of art. The program is Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC) Arts Committee’s largest initiative, and this is its fourth year. I’ll be posting more about progress and insights as we go along.
The first event I attended was a “speed dating” evening where the nine researchers and nine artists for ARx4 met each other. To begin the process of creating collaborative pairs, artists sat at individual tables while the researchers moved from table to table. The researcher spent four minutes at each table before the bell sounded and moved to the next table. The conversations were jammed packed and spontaneous. All parties then ranked their preferences for partners in a secret ballot that was organized the following week by the PBC Arts Committee.
After ballots were tabulated, I received the happy news that Tim Lant is my partner. He’s the director of program development for Arizona State University’s Knowledge Enterprise and project manager for the Compact X-ray Free Electron Laser project (CXFEL). Wow! Stayed tuned. This is going to be an amazing experience.
You can see the ARx3 pieces and exhibition here.
